One of the music industry’s biggest stars will be in Saskatoon next month when the city hosts the Canadian Country Music (CCMA) Awards.

Organizers announced Monday that Taylor Swift will receive the inaugural CCMA Generation Award during the event being held Sept. 9 at Credit Union Centre, according a news release issued Monday.

The award is designed celebrate artists who have pushed the country music onto an international stage and attracted a new audience to the genre.

Swift is the biggest selling country artist in Canada and one of the top selling artists in the world, across all genres, said Ted Ellis, chair of the CCMA board of directors.

Swift has received the CCMA award for top-selling album on three previous occasions.
