Police say a suspicious package that prompted the evacuation of a Saskatoon school has been found to be non-hazardous.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police received a report that a suspicious package had been delivered to Buena Vista School, located in the 1300 block of Lorne Avenue.

The school was evacuated as the Saskatoon Fire Department and its hazardous materials unit were called to the scene. In a news release issued just before 3 p.m., police said the fire department tested the material inside the package and determined it was non-hazardous.

Parents were told their children could be picked up at the Abilities Council building, located at 1410 Kilburn Avenue.

Police are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Saskatoon police or Crime Stoppers.
