Charges are being laid after a suspected impaired driver in La Ronge collided with an ambulance on scene of a house fire.

RCMP were called around 10 a.m. Thursday to assist fire crews at a house fire on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band. Officers witnessed a vehicle strike an ambulance just as they were arriving at the scene, which prompted an impaired driving investigation.

The driver was taken to the detachment and has since been released for court in La Ronge.

“The name of the driver cannot be released at this time as formal charges have not been sworn,” RCMP said in a media release late Friday morning.

All occupants of the house were able to escape without significant injuries, but the structure was destroyed, according to police.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
