A 16 year old boy is facing criminal charges after taking an imitation handgun to school and threatening other students with it.

Rosthern RCMP say it happened Wednesday at Rosthern High School. They say he was arrested at the school, and the weapon was seized. Police say other students believed the handgun was real, although it turned out to be an imitation air pistol.

The 16 year old faces two charges of pointing a firearm, assault with a weapon, uttering threats and breaching a youth sentencing order.

The Youth Criminal Justice Act prevents his identify from being published. He’s scheduled to appear in provincial court on Monday for a bail hearing.
