Saskatoon police are reminding drivers to slow down as students head back to school this week.

Speed restrictions in the city’s school zones took effect Tuesday morning. Motorists must slow to 30 km/h when driving past elementary and high schools.

The rule, which applies Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., is in effect from September until the end of June.

Fines for speeding drivers start at about $200.

Police said officers will be monitoring school zones throughout the year and that photo speed enforcement will rotate through five school zones across the city.
