Residents in Saskatoon and north-central Saskatchewan can expect to see 15 to 20 centimetres of snow by Sunday morning.

“Winter is planning a return to parts of Saskatchewan this weekend, courtesy of a developing low pressure system in Montana which is moving northward into the province,” an Environment Canada weather alert read Saturday.

The southern part of the province was hit with rain overnight Friday, according to the national weather agency. The rain changed to snow early Saturday as it moved north into colder air.

Several regions saw freezing rain before the snow hit.

The province’s Saskatoon, La Ronge, Martensville, Melfort, Pelican Narrows and Prince Albert areas were all issued snowfall warnings.

Fifteen to 20 centimetres of snow is expected by Sunday before the snow slows down, Environment Canada said.

Motorists should drive with caution.
