Traffic is again moving in both directions on Highway 2 north of Prince Albert after a washout during the weekend closed the highway.

The highway was reopened at 7 p.m. Monday following repairs after the road collapsed due to heavy rains.

The washout, located about 52 kilometres north of the Waskesiu turnoff, had forced north and southbound traffic to be detoured.

But despite Highway 2 reopening, northern Saskatchewan is not out of the woods just yet. In the Meath Park and Wierdale areas, some grid roads are impassable due to heavy mud.

Approximately one hundred people from the James Smith Cree Nation near Melfort were forced to be evacuated.  While no homes have flooded, roads into the reserve are almost impassable because of the heavy rain.

Also, due to the heavy rainfall over the weekend, parts of Highway 55, northeast of Prince Albert were flooded.
