Alcohol is believed to be a factor in a single vehicle crash that killed one person, and injured six others on the Red Earth First Nation.

A van with seven occupants struck a bridge and went into the water on Sunday morning. Officers at the Carrot River RCMP detachment received the call at 9:14 a.m.

A 19-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the other six occupants suffered injuries.

Nipawin Fire Rescue and Nipawin EMS were called to the scene to use the Jaws of Life to free three of the passengers. Four of the passengers were taken to hospital and released. One woman was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Saskatoon. She is listed in stable condition.

An RCMP collision analyst is assisting in the investigation.
