A search is underway in southeast Saskatchewan for man believed to have drowned Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses say a 43-year-old man disappeared under the water while trying to swim across the river near the Alameda Dam, RCMP said in a news release.

Attempts to find the man by those on scene at the time were unsuccessful.

An RCMP underwater recovery team along with emergency personnel from Oxbow and Carnduff picked up the search for the man Wednesday evening.

The name of the missing man is not being released at this time.
