Residents in the city’s northeast are under a drinking water advisory after a primary water main was damaged by a private contractor.

The city says homes and businesses on the east side of the river, north of College Drive and east of Central Avenue are affected.

The neighbourhoods include: Sutherland Industrial, Arbor Creek, Forest Grove, Erindale, Willowgrove, Silverspring, Evergreen and University Heights.

A drinking water advisory means its recommended water be boiled before consumption.

A contractor working on a private land development punctured a primary water main at around 1:15 p.m. Monday, which resulted in significant depressurizing in the neighbourhoods, according to a news release.

At this point, the city is checking the system and conducting water quality tests. Saskatoon Water is performing computer modelling to determine the extent of the area affected.

The city’s NotifyNow program will be used to advice affected customers of the drinking water advisory.
