Saskatoon police are asking anyone who feels they were a victim of criminal activity during a protest at the annual Premier’s Dinner  to come forward.

Hundreds demonstrated outside of Prairieland Park Thursday night in Saskatoon, ahead of a keynote speech by Premier Brad Wall. The large crowd of protestors would not allow cars to enter the parking lot without shouting at drivers and voicing their opinions on the Saskatchewan government’s recent budget cuts.

The majority of the protest crowd, estimate to be more than 200 at time, was mostly peaceful. There were a small number of interactions with drivers and vehicles that created tension, as cars attempted to move through the crowd.

Saskatoon police are in the process of collecting video evidence and requesting complainants and witnesses to come forward. The service is also reviewing the way it responded to Thursday’s protest, according to a media release.

Saskatoon police are encouraging anyone who believes they were a victim of criminal activity during the protest to contact officers and are aware of the concerns of many people confronted by protesters who were attempting to attend the event.

Members of the public can file a report at the police station, by phone at 306-975-8300 or through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
