Video games aren’t just for fun, at least not for Nolan Blackstock.

Blackstock will be competing in the Extra Life United video game competition in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday.

The winner of the competition will bring home $150,000 for their local children’s hospital.

“For as long as memory serves, we haven’t had a children’s hospital in Saskatchewan, so being a small part of a great cause is tremendously fulfilling,” Blackstock said.

Blackstock will be competing in the video games TowerFall Ascension, Nidhogg, Brawlhalla, Divekick and Duck Game, and will also aim to win the Ticket To Ride board game title.

To prepare for the competition, he’s spent the past months filming himself playing the games.

“People take it very seriously, even though we’re playing games. So that makes me pretty nervous, since I know everyone going has the exact same goal in mind,” Blackstock said.

Blackstock will be one of 126 participants and one of eight Canadians competing.
