All units at Saskatoon’s provincial jail were locked down Thursday after several inmates set a number of small fires.

Police and fire crews were called to the correctional centre shortly after 1 p.m.

According to the Ministry of Corrections, seven offenders in the remand unit began intimidating each other before setting several fires inside the facility. Corrections workers managed to control the situation and the fires were eventually extinguished.

A spokesperson for the ministry said emergency crews were called as a precaution. The incident was not gang-related.

The lockdown was lifted after a few hours.

No one was injured.
