The Saskatoon Health Region has asked its president and CEO, Maura Davies, to step down.

“Davies had indicated two years ago she was nearing retirement. The SRHA decided now was an appropriate time to begin a shift in leadership, and asked Davies to step down,” a media release from the region read.

Davies has led the region since June 2005. She will step down Dec. 1 and receive severance.

“The SRHA felt we needed long-term leadership in place well into the future, given the important projects we are undertaking, such as construction of the Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan and Saskatchewan Health-Care Management System,” Jim Rhode, the region’s chair, said.

Davies was offered a new role within the region but declined the offer.

“For all things there is a season. For me, that means it is time to pass the torch,” she said.

“I am proud of the gains we have made in achieving better health for our communities, better care, better value for the taxpayer dollars invested in our services, and better teams. I also recognize that there is much more improvement to be done.”

If Saskatoon Health is unable to find a new president and CEO by the time Davies leaves her position, an interim leader will be appointed from within the region.
