Emergency crews made a special rescue during a house fire Monday afternoon.

A dog trapped in fire at a home in Saskatoon’s Eastview neighbourhood was unconscious when firefighters reached it, but they we able to revive the animals using a special oxygen mask.

Fire crews responded just after 4 p.m. to find flames showing from the home located on the 2700 block of Eastview. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading into the home’s attic and to neighbouring homes.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian for examination, while a cat that was also rescued from the house appeared unharmed.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Damage is estimated at $25,000 and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
