A ‘Lest We Forget’ message is running across the displays of Saskatoon Transit buses Tuesday.

The bus service is honouring 58-year-old Winnipeg bus driver Irvine J. Fraser, who was fatally stabbed by a passenger last week and is being laid to rest Tuesday.

The ‘Lest We Forget’ message, which is displayed on the buses during Remembrance Day, has also been displayed to commemorate police officers who died in the line of duty, Saskatoon Transit says.

Fraser was stabbed at the University of Manitoba campus early in the morning Feb. 14 while stopped at the end of his route.

A 22-year-old is facing second-degree murder, weapon possession and breach of probation charges.

The president of Saskatoon’s local transit union is attending Fraser’s funeral.

Bus drivers with Regina Transit are tying black ribbons to their buses to honour Fraser.
