A 12-year-old boy from Saskatoon is facing charges after police say a girl under the age of 10 was sexually assaulted.

The alleged incident occurred the evening of July 16. Saskatoon police say officers were called to a home in southeast neighbourhood after the girl’s parents reported she may have been assaulted.

Investigators with the sex crimes unit believe the sexual assault occurred after the boy encountered the girl while outside playing.

The two were unknown to each other, according to police.

The boy was arrested based on a description from the girl. He is charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm and sexual interference.

His next court appearance is set for Aug. 21. He is now under supervised care, with court-imposed conditions, police say.
