The controversy over robocalls in Saskatchewan escalated Wednesday when it became a hot topic at Question Period. Accusations and denials were heard by both leading parties.
At issue was the so-called push poll by the federal Conservative Party on electoral boundary changes.
NDP leader Thomas Mulcair called the scandal a fraud. “Conservatives lied to avoid taking responsibility for their actions,” he told parliament in Question Period
Prime Minister Harper said he denied the accusations. Harper said that there was overwhelming opposition to the boundary changes in the province, and they were simply taking part in the democratic process.
Liberal MP Ralph Goodale has lodged a complaint against the Conservatives to the CRTC.
According to David McGrane, a political science professor from the University of Saskatchewan, the complaint is very serious. “Not only does this show the Conservatives were manipulating the democratic process, it could be that they also broke the law,” he said.
