A Saskatchewan Party MLA and former Saskatoon city councillor has been removed from a provincial committee and asked to stay off social media after ‘liking’ a controversial Facebook post.
Eric Olauson, who was elected as MLA for Saskatoon University in April, ‘liked’ a post that used an expletive suggesting violence against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau supporters.
“I don’t always slap the s—t out of Justin Trudeau supporters… but when I do, I blame climate change,” the post read.
The premier’s office said Olauson has been removed as chair of the Municipal Cooperation committee and asked to take a break from social media for a while.
The office added that the post liked by Olauson is not acceptable and not in any way reflective of the government’s views.
Olauson served as Saskatoon’s Ward 8 councillor before entering provincial politics.
