A new state of the art product is coming to life in Saskatchewan, and its inventor is also using a modern fundraising method to make it a reality.

Rylan Grayston is a Yorkton based inventor who’s designed an affordable 3D printer. “A 3D printer is basically like technology’s answer to the magic wand,” he said.

“It’s actually better than a magic wand because in fairy tales there’s only one person who gets to wield that wand.”

The items the peachy printer has been able to create are simple so far, but there’s the potential for it to create controversial items, including electronics and guns.

The fundraising for the project has been as innovative as printer itself. Using Kickstarter, an online crowd sourcing site, Grayston has been able to connect with investors around the world. The original goal was to raise $50,000 with Kickstarter. Grayston raised that in 24 hours, and now he’s raised over half a million dollars.

Chad Jones from College Mobile was one of the investors. “They said if you give us money now, to help us start this company, and getting it off the ground, we’ll give you a peachy printer at a discount,” he said.

“He’s done a really good jon of pitching his idea and getting it out there because a lot of his money isn’t just coming from Saskatchewan, it’s coming from all over the world,” said Jones.

Grayston hopes to make money off the idea, but he admitted the “magic wand” isn’t a crystal ball. For now, he’s continuing to gather investors and work on making his 3D printer market-ready.
