Saskatchewan premier Brad Wall was in Saskatoon Friday morning, cutting the ribbon to officially open the new SARCAN processing plant in the Marquis Industrial area.

SARCAN is responsible for recycling over 13,000 tonnes of material like glass, plastic and rubber.

The provincial government contributed to the environmentally-friendly facility through a $4 million grant from the Go Green Fund.

The last SARCAN processing plant opened 18 years ago, and processed 73 million containers a year. With the new plant, SARCAN expects to process up to 66 per cent more.
