More than 1,000 Saskatchewan Rush fans gathered in downtown Saskatoon Friday for a special “Rush Hour Rally.”
Fans lined up to show their support for the lacrosse club as it heads into Saturday’s playoff game against the Colorado Mammoth. With a victory, Saskatchewan could punch its ticket to the finals and have a chance to compete for a third consecutive National Lacrosse League championship.
Many people took part in the rally, including future lacrosse stars from the Saskatoon SWAT Lacrosse Club.
“They give us more confidence and show us how to do things,” said Zane Normand, who plays with the SWAT. “We just watch their games, see what they do, how they play, how they change and how they shoot.”
Other fans had the chance to meet their heroes, including Wesley Nelson, a huge fan of Rush player Jeremy Thompson.
“He’s just the greatest guy in the world and I’ve got his number and signatures on all my stuff. I even cut my hair like him,” Nelson laughed.
Rush defenceman Brett Mydske said he’s never seen fans quite like the ones in Saskatchewan and Saskatoon.
“I don’t think there’s another city in the league that could put something like this together,” Mydske said. “Since day one, the fan support has been unreal and it’s going to be crazy tomorrow, and we hope we can make the city proud.”
The Saskatchewan Rush take on the Colorado Mammoth at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at SaskTel Centre.
