Fire crews were called to a home on Thain Way on Monday night after reports of a fire in an upstairs bathroom.

Three trucks and an aerial ladder unit responded to the house. The first crew to arrive on scene found smoke coming from the back of the split level home.

Crews found a fire in an upstairs bathroom. They quickly extinguished the blaze. A fire investigator determined that the cause of the fire was an electrical malfunction in the bathroom fan.

The fire department says all of the people of the home were alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector. It’s fire prevention week in Saskatchewan, and firefighters say this is a good reminder to residents to check their smoke detectors regularly.

Smoke detectors should be tested once a month, and replaced at least once every 10 years.
