Charges are pending against a 34-year-old man and police are seeking a second after a ballot box was set on fire at a band byelection on the Poundmaker Cree Nation.

Cut Knife RCMP received the call on September 30th that two men had removed the ballot box from the building where the vote was being had, taken it outside, and tossed them into a fire, before leaving the scene in a vehicle.

A 34-year-old man from Poundmaker First Nation was arrested shortly after and released. Police say charges are pending against him. They are still searching for a 35-year-old man from Poundmaker First Nation.

The investigation continues.
