An RCMP officer convicted of child pornography offences has been sentenced to one year in jail.

A judge handed down the sentence to Const. Aiden Pratchett at Saskatoon Provincial Court Friday.

Pratchett, who was an RCMP constable in Fon-du-Lac, was charged in December 2014 with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography after the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit flagged activity on a computer at his residence.

He was found guilty of both charges last week.

Court heard investigators tracked pornographic images to the computer. Police estimated the age of a girl in one of the pictures was between six and 10.

The Crown said 109 files were included as evidence in the case.

Friday’s sentence included three years probation on top of the one-year jail sentence.

Pratchett, who joined the RCMP in 2010, has been suspended without pay since March 2015. He is still the subject of an ongoing RCMP code of conduct investigation, an RCMP spokesperson told CTV.
