Buyers looking to take over the Saskatchewan Transportation Company depots can make a bid until Oct. 4, according to Saskatchewan Central Services.

“We don’t have a set price for the facilities. It’s an open competitive process, so bidders will bid whatever they think the property is valued at,” Nancy Cherney, assistant deputy minister for central services’ property management, said.

The Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert terminals are for sale on sasktenders.ca.

There was speculation that an arena would take the STC depot’s place in Saskatoon, but the government said they do not have a preference of who takes over the space.

“We don’t have someone in mind in terms of future use. It does come down to best value for those properties,” Cherney said.

The sale comes after the provincial government axed the STC as part of its budget cuts.

Saskatoon Transit considers improving bus routes to new Greyhound terminal

Greyhound buses, which currently operate out of the former STC depot in Saskatoon, are set to relocate to Husky Travel Centre on Marquis Drive.

Greyhound passengers who need to get from the Husky Travel Centre to downtown Saskatoon will have to take two buses, which is approximately an hour commute.

The director of Saskatoon Transit said he doesn’t foresee adding a dedicated route out to the new Greyhound terminal, but may consider making the buses already running more frequent.

“We’ll watch it closely once it happens and whatever timing changes we can make that will assist people getting on Greyhound buses, we’ll see what we can do,” Jim McDonald, director of Saskatoon Transit, said.

The next time routes will be discussed and subject for change is in December, according to McDonald.

Greyhound buses are set to move to their new drop-off and pick-up spot on Sept. 30.
