The City of Saskatoon says it’s on track to open protected bike lanes downtown next month.

The bicycle-only lanes separate riders from traffic because they sit outside the parking lane and next to the sidewalk — unlike current Saskatoon bike lanes that place riders between drivers and the parking lane.

The first protected lanes, which are part of a city pilot project, are scheduled to open in the last week of June and will be installed on 23rd Street from Spadina Crescent to Idylwyld Drive. Additional lanes will open on Fourth Avenue next May.

The pilot project is set to run until September 2016.
