The Prince Albert Raiders have fired their head coach.

The Western Hockey League squad announced Friday morning head coach Cory Clouston had been relieved of his duties effective immediately.

Clouston, who coached the Ottawa Senators from 2009 to 2011, joined the Raiders in June 2013. He was in the second year of a two-year contract with the team.

The team went 41-41-3-2 under Clouston. Last season the team won a WHL tie-breaker game over Red Deer before being swept in the first round of the playoffs to eventual Memorial Cup champions, the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Associate coach Dave Manson will stand as interim head coach Friday night when the Raiders travel to Moose Jaw to face the Warriors. The squad hosts the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night.

The team said they will soon name a new permanent head coach.
