Ted Zurakowski – NDP

Ted Zurakowski

Zurakowski will represent the NDP in Prince Albert Carlton in the 2011 provincial election. He was nominated as the NDP candidate in front of a packed house at the Prince Albert Exhibition Centre on March 27, 2010.

Zurakowski currently serves as a councilor on Prince Albert City Council. He also teaches in the local school system.

Zurakowski was raised on a family farm near Meath Park and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Prince Albert. He has also served as a provincial councillor with the Prince Albert Teachers Association, currently chairs Prince Albert's Housing Advisory Committee and has coached and volunteered with a variety of local teams and community organizations.

"I can't tell you how happy we are to have Ted as part of our team," Saskatchewan NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter said. "It is with great candidates like him that the NDP will be successful in winning back government in 2011."

He and his wife have two children.

Darryl Hickie - SaskParty

Darryl Hickie

Hickie was born in Winnipeg and moved to Prince Albert in 1975. Hickie has lived and worked in Prince Albert for the past 35 years. Up until his election as the MLA for Prince Albert Carlton in November of 2007, Hickie served as a Constable assigned to the Forensic Identification Unit of the Prince Albert Police Service. He is also past President of the Prince Albert Police Association.

Prior to joining the Police Service in Prince Albert, Hickie was employed with the Correctional Service of Canada as a Correctional Officer and a Parole Officer for 14 years at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. During his employment with Federal Corrections, he obtained his B.A. degree in Sociology.

Hickie is a past member of the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club, Director of the Crescent Acres Community Club and past member of the école Vickers School parent council. In his role as a police officer, he has had the opportunity to be the police coordinator on the Prince Albert Crime Stoppers Board. He is a past member of the Prince Albert Chamber of Commerce Investment and Growth Committee.

Hickie and his wife Charlene, a teacher in Prince Albert for 25 years, have two daughters.

George Morin - Green Party

George Morin 

Morin was raised in Sandy Bay, Saskatchewan. His first years were spent on the trapline, where he learned the ways of the land, his culture and language.

Morin left Sandy Bay and finished his high school in Regina, then went on to take several years of classes in Education and Administration. Morin returned to the north and accepted work with the provincial government as a Community Developer and later became the first Aboriginal Personnel Officer in the provincial civil service. In later years, Morin chose Human Resource Management as his career path and has worked for the Province, the Federal Government and First Nations Governments in this capacity.

For many years, Morin has volunteered in the trappers' organizations locally, regionally, provincially and nationally. Internationally he attended a conference of Humane Trappers in Amsterdam for the Fur Institute of Canada to help in the fight against the European animal rights ban on the trapping industry.

By nature, by culture and by background Morin is committed to the founding principles of the Green Party of Canada. He wants to see the north remain green, with a sustainable economy and future.
