Prairieland Park is looking to expand in the next couple of years.

The park is applying for funding through the Growing Forward 2 program, a cost-shared initiative between the federal government and the provincial government that supports agriculture efforts.

Prairieland Park hopes to get $10 million in funding from the program and plans to provide another $5 million itself for expansion.

The park is requesting funding for a new building that could help Prairieland accommodate the growing number of people who attend events at the site. The building would especially help with the increased number of people who attend the Western Canadian Crop Production Show, park officials say.

Prairieland Park CEO, Mark Regier, has requested a letter of support from council and the mayor.

“We have to have approval from the rovince of Saskatchewan and the government of Canada through their agriculture departments to get approved,” Regier said Wednesday.

“I think, even though we don't require city funding, just the city saying they support the community through this project gives us a leg up in our funding request.”

If the request goes through, Prairieland Park is hoping to have the building done by 2018.
