Students in the Prairie Spirit School Division are sounding the trumpet after learning their band programs will be cut.
Students recently launched an online petition to save the programs, and more than 3,000 people have so far signed it.
The school division consists of 45 schools in 28 communities surrounding Saskatoon. Band programs in 17 schools will be cut beginning next school year.
A $7-million shortfall in this year’s budget forced the division to make the decision, division officials said.
