Tuesday in a North Battleford courtroom, the Chief of the Poundmaker First Nation and other former officials had their sentencing put over.

Chief Duane Antoine and the former officials are being sentenced for fraud involving treaty land entitlement money. Tuesday morning the court heard about $74,000 in misspent treaty money. It was supposed to be used by Poundmaker to buy land and other benefits – instead, it was paid out to a number of people.

“I do admit that I took the $2,500,” Chief Antoine said. “It was no different from anybody, no different than bonuses.”

Sentencing will take place on February 1.
