A police warning of tainted drugs on Saskatoon streets may have had results.

The warning was issued Saturday after 10 people who they say had taken cocaine or ecstacy were hospitalized over night, but since then police say there have been no additional cases.

Paramedics say they responded to eight overdoses in different locations in the city during the span of two hours. For the majority of the patients it was clear they had taken bad drugs that led to serious medical emergencies.

“We were seeing with patients some that were serious to the point of being critical,” said Troy Davies of MD Ambulance.

In addition to the eight taken to hospital by paramedics, police say they were called to a home where a teenage male was in extreme medical distress. They also responded to call where they say a teenage male driver was feeling the effects of drugs and crashed at central and Gray Avenue.

Police don't know what was in the drugs but believe they were laced with potentially fatal chemicals.

"What we do know is that it is life threatening and can cause serious injury or even death," said police spokesperson Alyson Edwards.

It's believed the victims took either cocaine or ecstacy. Police and paramedics are concerned that with the number of cases they came across at different locations in the city there may be more of the drugs out there.

No one has died from this batch of bad drugs, but earlier this year police blamed fake oxycontin for the September deaths of two Saskatoon men.
