Authorities are looking for a man who escaped from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert on Monday night.

The Correctional Service of Canada says staff discovered that Hector Thomas Bird was not accounted for during a head count at 9:30 p.m. in the prison's minimum security unit.

Prison officials contacted Prince Albert police and the local RCMP detachment and a warrant for Bird's arrest was issued.

Bird is 23 years old and serving a three-year sentence for sexual assault, sexual interference and failure to comply with a probation order.

He is described as five-foot-seven and 117 pounds, with a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information on Bird's whereabouts is asked to contact police.
