A driver who allegedly crashed a car into the side of a small hotel at the top of the University Bridge and then fled the scene on foot has been located by police.

He was found hours after the Tuesday morning crash at a hospital where he was seeking medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. He checked himself in to the hospital at 11:30 a.m., according to police.

Police say he fled after the car, a BMW travelling up the bridge, left the road and busted through the fence of an empty lot, hit The Inn on College and flipped onto a parked vehicle. Officers were called to the scene, at College Drive and Clarence Avenue, at about 3:20 a.m.

The driver was the only occupant of the car.

No one was in the parked vehicle at the time of the crash and, according to the hotel’s owners, a person inside the room struck by the BMW was not hurt. The car narrowly missed a SaskEnergy meter on the building.

Speed was believed to be a factor in the crash, police say.

No charges had been laid as of Tuesday afternoon.
