Saskatoon Police are once again issuing an advisory about fraudulent calls from someone claiming to represent the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The caller claims that the victim owes back taxes, and uses threatening language to coerce them into paying the fake debt. In some cases, the caller even claims the victim will be arrested if they don’t pay. The caller demands payment by credit card or money transfer.

Police issued a similar warning on August 5, 2015, but they say they have received hundreds of complaints since then. They say in a few cases, the victims report being defrauded of up to $40,000.

Anyone who believes they have been similarly defrauded is asked to call police at 306-975-8300, or by contacting the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
