The Saskatoon Police Service is making it easier for residents to receive information from police and report crime through a mobile app launched Thursday.

The app features a Crime Stoppers button which allows residents to anonymously send in tips. Users will also be able to file most types of police reports on their mobile devices.

Other features include news releases and alerts, an interactive crime map showing the type of crimes that occur daily, and in which areas, and information and pictures of missing people.

There’s also a virtual officer section, which has answers to frequently asked questions.

Police Chief Clive Weighill says it will make policing more efficient in Saskatoon.

“Any way that we can reach out to the citizens of Saskatoon, get some feedback, get some information will make us a better police service,” he said.

The app is available on the Apple store and on Google Play.
