A video showing a Saskatoon man claiming to have posed as a 15-year-old girl online and confronting another man is going viral.

The video has been viewed more than 300,000 times on social media since Thursday and shows Chase Karns confronting a man sitting in a truck in downtown Saskatoon.

According to Karns, the man agreed to meet for sex with an underage girl.

Karns is part of a group that poses as underage girls online to confront alleged predators. The group, which Karns says has members across Canada, gathers proof of the incidents before handing the information over to police.

“If you’re going to pick up a kid, it will be one of us, and we will bust them,” Karns told CTV News. “We have all agreed, even if the cops don’t like it, we’re going to continue what we’re doing because we feel it’s right.”

Karns said he documented text messages between himself, posing as a teenage girl, and the man he claims he confronted.

“I don’t want to get charged because you are underage,” one message read.

Saskatoon police said officers are investigating the video, but that the service does not endorse Karn’s actions.

“The public aren’t the police in these situations, so we would just prefer that the police actually do the investigation,” Const. Bill Bergeron said.

Karns said within three hours of creating the fake profile he received more than 150 requests from people online to communicate with the account.
