UPDATE: Human remains found south of Saskatoon, in the Swanson area, on Nov. 20, 2016, have been identified as Barry Heimbecker.

Neilson Kakum was found alive a few days after he and Heimbecker were reported missing.

------ Below is an earlier version of the story:

The Saskatoon police major crime unit is involved in the search for two missing men from Saskatoon who were last seen on Sunday, March 20.

At approximately 7 a.m. Barry Heimbecker, 32, and Neilson Kakum, 21, were last seen together at a residence in Saskatoon's Fairhaven community, officials say.

At around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Saskatoon police say the girlfriend of one of the men was the last to be in contact with them by cellphone. The men said they were walking north in a field towards Highway 7 near Vanscoy trying to get a ride.

Police are asking landowners in the Swanson and Delisle areas to check their farmland and outside buildings for anything suspicious.

The men are believed to have left the city in a four-door, late model silver Chrysler 300 at the time of their disappearance, officials say. The vehicle has been found approximately 18 kilometres south of Delisle, just off of Highway 45 near Swanson.

Both men are associated to street gang activity in Saskatoon, police say. Officers are not ruling out foul play in their investigation.

Family and friends say it is not normal for the men to be without contact from them.

Anyone with information regarding this incident, or any criminal activity, is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
