Phase one of the Saskatoon Airport Terminal Expansion Project is set to open to the public tomorrow.

Stephen Maybury, President and CEO of the Saskatoon Airport Authority, said that there is still a lot of work ahead.

“I want to emphasize this is just phase one,” stressed Maybury. “At a minimum there is still 12 months of construction to complete the project. This time next year we will be looking forward to the grand opening.”

The expansion project to John G. Diefenbaker International Airport began in early 2012 and is expected to cost $53 million dollars. When completed, the expansion will allow the airport to offer much needed amenities and services for food, beverage and retail.

Once finished, the now existing 139,000 square feet will nearly double to over 260,000 square feet over two floors.
