A 59-year-old man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle Thursday night.

Saskatoon police say the man was crossing against the traffic signal at 22nd Street West and Avenue P when he was hit a by a westbound vehicle just before 7 p.m.

A police patrol unit was at the scene just as the accident happened and officers tried to save the pedestrian’s life but were unsuccessful, police said in a news release.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed.

The area was cordoned off for approximately four hours as the collision was investigated. Police say they do not anticipate charges being laid.
