A 21-year-old man taken to hospital after a stolen vehicle crashed while allegedly fleeing Saskatoon police over the weekend has died.

The man was a passenger in a vehicle that was reported stolen Saturday, police say.

The vehicle fled from officers during an attempted traffic stop at Avenue V South and 17th Street on Sunday morning. During the pursuit, the vehicle struck a fence on the north side of Bethlehem school, according to police.

“Preliminary investigation shows that the 21-year-old male passenger was fatally injured as a result of the collision,” police said in a media release Tuesday.

A 20-year-old man — the alleged driver — was taken into custody at the scene. He’s since been charged with dangerous driving causing death, evading police causing death, possession of stolen property over $5,000, breaching probation and several gun and weapon charges.

Police say officers recovered four guns and ammunition from the vehicle after the crash.

A firearm and ammunition were reported stolen with the vehicle during the initial report Saturday, according to police.
