A baby boy was born on the side of a Saskatchewan highway Wednesday morning after paramedics transporting the baby’s mother to hospital decided the delivery couldn’t wait.

“It was an imminent delivery,” said MD Ambulance spokesperson Matt McGurk. “Baby was coming and we had to pull over.”

MD Ambulance paramedics delivered the healthy baby boy at 4:06 a.m. on Highway 12, south of Martensville.

There were no complications during the delivery, said McGurk. “The baby is doing well.”

The baby’s parents, driving to Saskatoon from Waldheim, were unable to make it to hospital on their own before emergency responders were called.

Both the baby and mother were transported to Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital in good condition following the delivery.

Martensville is located about 20 kilometres north of Saskatoon.
