The overdose deaths of two Saskatoon men may be linked to counterfeit drugs.

Police say a dangerous and potentially deadly synthetic drug being sold as Oxycontin 80 is making its rounds in the city.

Oxycontin is usually prescribed as a pain killer but police believe a batch being sold on the streets is counterfeit and may have contributed to the overdose deaths of two men in their 20s. The men, who died one day apart, knew each each other, police said in a news release.

The pills are described as having a round, convex shape, are blue/green in colour with “80” on one side and "CDN" on the other. Instead of Oxycontin, police say the pills may contain other unknown deadly ingredients.

Anyone with information on the counterfeit pills is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
