A 23-year-old Niagara Falls man is facing numerous child pornography charges in a case involving a girl from Saskatchewan.

Police from the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit began, in February, investigating the online extortion of a girl under 16 years old. Officers were able to identify the suspect as a resident of Ontario’s Niagara region, and in July, the Niagara police ICE Unit began investigating the case.

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested Friday after Niagara police executed search warrants in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines and Fort Erie.

He was charged with possessing, distributing and accessing child pornography, extortion with intent to obtain child pornography images on the Internet, and child luring.

The suspect is being held in police custody as he awaits a bail hearing.
