Despite the dry conditions around the province, there is currently no fire ban in Saskatoon, but the city is still urging residents to be cautious when using backyard fire pits.

Fire pits should be at least three metres from any fences or buildings and should be covered by a metal screen. They must also be supervised at all times.

The city is also reminding residents that burning tree branches, garden refuse or any material that will cause dense black smoke or a foul odour in fire pits is not allowed.

Fire pits are regulated by a bylaw in Saskatoon, and the fire department could be called to put out any fires that don’t comply.
