A new assisted living home opened Friday in Melfort.

The residential development is designed to accommodate a four-space group home and includes an enhanced supportive living program.

People living in the new home will have a supportive environment and be able to work towards their goals of an independent life and meaningful community involvement.

Built by PLUS Industries Inc., the project was a partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan. The provincial government invested $400,000 in one-time capital funding for the project, $481,000 in annual operational funding, and more than $40,000 on an annual basis to assist with mortgage payments.

There are 440 people in Saskatchewan with intellectual disabilities waiting for specialized residential and day programs. The project is part of the province’s multi-year commitment to address the waitlist.
