A mother is looking for answers after her teenage daughter died of a drug overdose in Edmonton.

Dozens of posters have been put up all over downtown Edmonton advertising the memorial for Chantaey Katchmar. The service will take place near the apartment building where the 16-year-old died of a drug overdose on Canada Day.

Chantaey is from Saskatoon, but had left home at the age of 15. Her mother Carla says she started doing drugs at age 13.

Carla drove to Edmonton on Sunday, hoping to retrieve her daughter’s belongings. But police say they don't know where Chantaey's personal effects are.

Carla says the system is failing our youth, and parents need more rights to make decisions for their kids.
