Despite all of the snow and water earlier this spring, experts are forecasting a reasonable season for mosquitoes.

In the past week, the blood-suckers have emerged in the province, and there is still a lot of standing water in Saskatchewan for the pests to breed in. But in Saskatoon, the city’s pest control said the number of water bodies available is going down.

“The larva activity is out there, so we've out treating for a few weeks now and trying to get the population knocked down so they don't fly,” said Pest Management’s Geoff McLeod.

According to McLeod, much of the water has already been absorbed in the soil, and the large bodies of water are decreasing in size quite quickly.
