Mayoral candidate Kelley Moore announced plans Friday to grow Saskatoon’s population to 500,000 people.

Moore said she wants to establish downtown reserves to create more incentive for downtown redevelopment.

“Once private investors see that there is a plan, and it’s a solid plan, they will start to come and do development downtown,” Moore said. “Right now, there’s no incentive.”

Moore’s plans include allocating money to downtown parking reserves, and improving administrative processes to decrease hurdles for developers’ projects.

If elected, Moore said she would also adjust development levies based on service usage, and establish a tax incremental financing district within the downtown to create funding for new developments.

Mainstreet/Postmedia’s most recent poll, released Friday, found Moore in third place with 22 per cent support. Don Atchison was leading the race at 26 per cent, followed by Charlie Clark at 23 per cent. Newcomer Devon Hein was at one per cent.

Saskatoon’s civic election is set for Oct. 26.
